Just what I wanted for a new iPhone. A special “Thank You” to artist ‘Serge Averbukh’ for the addition, at my request, to the design of my Navy rating, the lightening bolts (sparks as they are/were called) in the middle of the CPO insignia. I asked; he came through….When I use my phone, it brings back fond memories of my 20-year Navy career…. Thanks Serge….
Martin Luther King, Jr., (January 15, 1929-April 4, 1968) was an American Baptist minister and activist who became the most rousing spokesman and leader in the American civil rights movement from 1955 until his assassination on April 4, 1968. Remembering Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday invokes mixed feelings for me. This wonderful man came to speak at my school in 1965. With conviction, passion, and power he spoke about the real issues facing our nation and the world. The spirit and precepts contained in his words remain within me till this day. He called upon our better selves to stand up and act. Presently, the civil and human rights that he gave his life for are now being assailed, as never before.
In 1965 after MLK launched a campaign in Selma Alabama with the aim of pressuring Congress to pass voting rights legislation, Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Voting Rights Act into law. President Johnson described that historic moment as “a triumph for freedom as huge as any...
Spadecaller is an experienced traditional artist, who creates original hand-painted digital images and photo composite artworks. In the late fifties at eight years old, Spadecaller started formal training in traditional oil painting.Through considerable personal sacrifice, his mother nurtured his artistic talents and provided him with the tools to launch his creative journey. Spadecaller attended The School of Visual Arts in New York City (1970-71), and during the 70's up until the late 80's, he exhibited acrylic and oils in Montreal and New York. Due to the onset of chronic illness in the late nineties and with the advent of image editing software, he turned to creating digital hand painted images and photographic art. Artwork by...

What a beautiful portrait of MLK Jr., Matthew. If ever there was a time we needed his vision and determination, it is now. Nice birthday tribute to a great American patriot and civil rights activist. And how wonderful that you were fortunate to see and hear him speak in person. Loved your narrative. I agree 110% with everything you said. I just hope and pray that people wake up in time to realize what's going to save this country's democracy. Personally, I don't want to live in a dictatorship and the thought of it chills me to the bone. I think MLK Jr would love your tribute. L/fv/tw/pin
M Spadecaller replied:
Thank you very much, Helen. "I don't want to live in a dictatorship" either. If there was ever a time when this country needs a wake up call, it is now.
