Just what I wanted for a new iPhone. A special “Thank You” to artist ‘Serge Averbukh’ for the addition, at my request, to the design of my Navy rating, the lightening bolts (sparks as they are/were called) in the middle of the CPO insignia. I asked; he came through….When I use my phone, it brings back fond memories of my 20-year Navy career…. Thanks Serge….

This painting of Mother Teresa was done as an exercise in watercolors. I wanted to try watercolor and didn't have the right type of paper or drawing board that was made specifically for watercolor.
So I painted this image and of course it wrinkled up the paper as it dried. I was happy enough with the results because it caused the paint to accumulate and create the weathered look that helps shows her compassion for others.
I decided to try to flatten the paper with an iron. I placed the painting in between two other sheets of paper and ironed it back to as flat as I could get it. I really like painting portraits of peoples faces. Older people have more lines and I find it more interesting in trying to capture their character as opposed to the smooth skin of small children.
Mother Teresa was the recipient of numerous honors including the 1979 Nobel Peace Prize. In late 2003, she was beatified, the third step toward possible sainthood, giving her the title "Blessed Teresa o...
Todd Spaur, lives in small rural town of Bussey Iowa. graduated Twin Cedars High School in 1980. Graduated with an AA Degree from Des Moines Area Comm. College in 1983. Has Worked in the sign business as a designer and sign painter for most of his carreer. Became disabled from a car accident in 1994. Has worked as a freelance artis since Mainly doing portraits of people from photographs. Main highlights of carreer were the portrait of President Obama, autographed original. Also was featured on the Today Show "American Story, Payback Painter" with Bob Dotson. This was on July 4th 2012, the story focused on a mural painted on a building in his hometown of Bussey, as a thank you to the town for helping him and his family after a horrible...
